For over 20 years, TechnoTeam has been providing measuring systems designed for the indirect measurement of luminous intensity distribution curves, commonly referred to as LID. One of our main products in this field is the “BV Room”.
The BV Room is a specialized photometric laboratory equipped with essential components, including a measuring wall that enables the indirect measurement of the LID, a geometrically and photometrically calibrated luminance measuring camera (LMK), and, of course, the object to be measured.

The size of the laboratory is determined by the characteristics of the object being measured and the specific measurement task at hand. The laboratory itself is highly scalable, allowing for flexibility based on various measurement requirements. Due to the wide range of objects that need to be measured, there are numerous sizes of image processing rooms available. The size of the measuring wall limits the area of the LID that can be recorded with an image of the LMK.
However, modern DUTs often require larger LIDs to be adequately captured. To meet this demand, the object is rotated around its reference point, allowing it to be sequentially captured over an area that exceeds the size of the individual measuring wall. At the end of the measurement process, the software combines the captured image set into a larger LID.

With this in mind, an equal partnership was established with LMT. LMT has been building the highest-quality goniophotometers for half a century. The combination of the two companies' core competencies led to the decision to jointly market measurement systems for camera-based goniophotometry laboratories for the measurement of light. This patented approach combines traditional goniophotometers, equipped with classic photometers and colorimeters, with imaging light and color measurement cameras, thus fusing the advantages of both worlds into a single measurement system.

LMT goniophotometers can rotate the object precisely around two axes and thus capture the entire LID of the object with the LMK. In addition, LMT goniophotometers also offer the option of capturing measured values with photometers or color-measuring heads. The use of different sensors, such as LMK and photometers, that contribute to the measurement result is referred to as sensor fusion.

Positioning systems

Depending on the requirements for the movement range and the weight of the test specimens, you can choose from a large selection of precise handling systems.

Sensors & accessories

With a wide range of sensors and accessories, your measurement laboratory can be customized to your exact requirements and needs. Both cooperation partners contribute their core competencies here, so that you can carry out fast, precise and standard-compliant measurements.

Software

The combination of a 2D handling system with an imaging luminance measurement camera makes it possible to assemble a series of camera images, each containing a different section of the light distribution curve of the test specimen, into a complete LID. Various software add-ons are available to meet individual customer requirements.

Depending on the solution, different software packages are available:

Modern lighting systems in the automotive industry, such as “Adaptive Driving Beam”, or ADB for short, and Matrix LED headlights, feature various lighting scenarios that all need to be characterized. Classic goniophotometers reach their limits with these complex measurements. Due to sequential scanning with a photometer (a 1D sensor) the measurement can often take hours, especially if multiple lighting scenarios are to be analyzed. In contrast, the LMK system allows for rapid data acquisition, enabling the complete recording of a light scenario in just a few minutes. After the camera-based LID measurement has been completed and the reference point of the light distribution has been determined by evaluating this data using the software, the individual test points specified by standards can be measured with the photometer. This also provides standard-compliant measurement results for the homologation of the measured object.

The combined approach of fast camera-based indirect goniophotometry thus utilizes the advantages of both metrological worlds and also mutually compensates for the existing disadvantages.
